Inhalte: The subject of homogenization theory are partial differential equations (PDE) with coefficients that vary periodically or randomly on a small length scale. On a macroscopic scale, these partial differential equations often exhibit effective behavior that can be described by a simplified PDE. Homogenization theory not only has exciting applications in materials modeling, but also raises profound theoretical questions that are the subject of current research.

The course will first introduce the fundamentals of homogenization theory in the form of a lecture. In the second part, results from publications will be presented by students in a seminar.
Voraussetzungen: Basic concepts from the theory of partial differential equations (e.g., concept of weak solutions, Sobolev space) and functional analysis (e.g., weak convergence)
