Inhalte: The Hornstraße in Berlin in the west of the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district is a quiet and green inner-city residential street in the immediate vicinity of the park at Gleisdreieck. Hornstraße is characterized by a generously dimensioned street space with a central promenade and front gardens that are unusually wide for Berlin. In remembrance of Lenné's unfinished planning work, Hornstraße invites the visitor to take a closer look at the historical references of the quarter and at Lenné's visionary concepts for urban development.
Today, new concepts for urban living are being discussed in Berlin in connection with the mobility turnaround. Among other things, they deal with what new functions and potentials street spaces can have after the mobility turnaround and how they can simultaneously meet the requirements of active forms of mobility and adaptation to climate change.
Based on an analysis of the historical and current situation, the aim is to develop a sustainable overall concept for the design of the street and urban space of Hornstraße, between the facades of the adjacent buildings including the front gardens, as well as the links and transitions to the directly adjacent quarters. In addition, proposals for solutions for the integration and the interweaving with the neighbourhood are expected. The focus of the consideration is on the public space between the front gardens as well as on the intersection areas. The front gardens themselves are to be considered as formative elements.
