Event type: Seminar
Org-unit: Faculty of Architecture
Hours per week: 4
Language of instruction: German/English
Inhalte: “The truth isn’t the truth until people believe you; and they can’t believe you if they don’t know what you’re saying; and they can’t know what you’re saying if they don’t listen to you; and they won’t listen to you if you’re not interesting. And you won’t be interesting unless you say things freshly, originally, imaginatively.”
- William Bernbach, DBB Advertising

Rapid technological development, new modes of communication and increased global mobility have accelerated the flow and expanded the amount of information shared in our socio-cultural and political landscape. Moreover the advent of COVID-19 Pandemic has exacerbated this condition and we are quickly forced to adapt to new demands and develop new standards and practices for our hybrid Physical/Digital Life.

These events have highlighted the strained and muddled relationship between “THE INFORMER” and “THE RECEIVER”. Yet the idiom  “A picture is worth a 1000 words” still remains to be true.

This seminar’s aim is to develop a critical eye on the current ways and means imagery have been used as a tool of communication. We will analyze and relate our “Visual Diet” to the cannons of Architecture, Art and Design. Then we will use the lessons learned in crafting new compelling images that turn ideas, proposals, hypotheses and imagined worlds as “FACTS”.

During the semester we will use a hybrid learning modus. This means that workshops and seminars will take place in both digital and physical format. We will also invite various architects, designers, artists and critics from all over the world to provide input on our work.

Further information on the idea, programme and course of the semester will be explained at the introductory event. This Seminar will be taught in both German and English.
