Inhalte: Neutron and X-ray techniques provide exceptionally powerful means to explore the structure and dynamics of materials down to atomic length scales and femtosecond time resolution. Indeed, much of our current understanding of matter at the atomic scale has been derived from X-ray and neutron scattering experiments .

This course offers a comprehensive introduction to condensed matter research using modern X-ray and neutron methods. Specifically, you will study the following:

  • X-ray and neutron sources (synchrotrons, free-electron lasers, reactor and spallation sources)
  • Interaction of radiation with matter
  • Modern scattering and spectroscopy techniques with X-rays and neutrons
  • Applications in the study of novel electronic phenomena in complex quantum materials

The field is undergoing rapid development, driven by the advent of next-generation light and neutron sources worldwide, which are opening up entirely new experimental possibilities. This makes it a particularly exciting area of research with abundant opportunities for early-career scientists to make impactful contributions.
