Inhalte: The "Modern Numerics for Theoretical Physics" course guides students to the thought processes involved in formulating physical problems so that a computer can solve them effectively. The subsequent discretization, programming and verification of numerical results constitute the main practical part of this course. The whole "computational thinking" workflow with a particular emphasis on energy-to-solution metrics will be studied in detail on examples from computational fluid dynamics, plasma physics, photonics and quantum electrodynamics. Students are encouraged to develop their computer skills by solving related problems on small to medium high performance computing environments.
