Inhalte: This lecture teaches the fundamantal principles of NMR spectroscopy as well as its applications for molecular structure determination in chemistry, materials and life sciences.

Main topics:

  • "classical" vector model, Bloch equations and relaxation
  • product operator formalism
  • RF pulses and pulse sequences
  • 1D and 2D Fourier transform NMR spectroscopy
  • magnetic interactions (chemical shift, J coupling, magnetic dipole-dipole interaction, electric quadrupole interaction)
  • nuclear Overhauser effect (NOE)
  • molecular structure determination especially by liquid-state NMR spectroscopy
  • basic principles of solid-state NMR spectroscopy

Zielgruppen: This lecture (3 SWS) + seminar/excercise (1 SWS) for Master students (Chemistry Master) and PhD students is also eligible for students of other faculties, e.g., from the School of Science.
